Update from Kristin
Hope you all are having a good weekend! So, you may have seen the post below about JoAnn's coupons. I am working there and would love to get you on the mailing list (paper or email or both). Just email me your contact info at kristin.cole@yahoo.com. Some of you may have signed up in the past but haven't received the ads lately...this is because you have to have your ad barcode scanned at the store to stay on. Kind of dumb, but whatever. I can sign you up again. We are actually having a contest to see you can sign up the most people....so email me!!! Have a great day! =)

COUPON DISCOVERY!!
Okay, what?!? I was at Albertson's last night getting chicken for $1.77 per lb. Guess what I found? You all probably already know this...if not, take notes! I am not sure how I have overlooked this for so long, but there are dozens and dozens of FREE coupons all along each aisle in front of products. I probably got 30 different coupons last night. Some expiring as late as April...so that way I can watch for sales. I read somewhere that products typically go on sale 4 weeks after the coupons are released. May or may not be true...but worth looking into! Please, please, please pick up any coupons you find! If you are a coupon clipper or want to be....don't forget to join our coupon exchange...starting soon! =)

Some Money Saving Tips...
I have a million things running through my mind that I need to pass on to all of you...
~ Don't forget about Consignment stores! I went to The Repeat Boutique (my personal favorite) on Vista. They were having a HUGE sale and I got 2 skirts, 1 dress, and 1 shirt for $20. Pretty good. =) There are many for kids and adults around the valley.
~ I always go to the hair school to get my hair colored. It almost always turns out perfect and I can usually get out of there for less than $50 for a cut, color, and style.
~ You can get free or reduced price dental cleaning at Apollo College in Boise (or most dental hygiene schools)
~ Want to negotiate a good deal with a manager or someone? Go at night or on a weekday when the traffic is light so the manager won't be stressed...and needs more sales.
~ Honk's on Overland & Orchard also has $.88 Tuesdays. So does the Honk's on Overland and Five Mile. Any others you guys know about?
~ You know all those free magazines you can get? Well get them. Not only are they free but many of them have coupons in them. The more ways to get free coupons the better! Don't forget to join the coupon exchange if you are interested (See post below). We are starting soon, but you can join anytime.
~ Check used appliance stores for any you need. We were looking at a tiny freezer for $450 new. We found a full size one in perfect condition for $275 at the appliance store on Orchard just past Morris Hill.

Couponing Group
Hey everyone, I read about something WONDERFUL in my Women's Day Magazine. One woman talked about having a coupon group that rotates coupons each week. We never meet in person, but each Monday we send our unwanted coupons to the next person on the list in the group. I would really like to put a group like this together so we can pass our coupons around. Please leave me a comment with your email address if you are interested. I know I am accumulating more and more coupons that I won't use...but you may want them! Hope to hear from you soon!

My Albertson's Jackpot
I had the BEST time at Albertson's last night. Before long, my husband was even deal searching. It was GREAT! I organized all my coupons in order of expiration date in an envelope before I left and found even more deals that I anticipated.
I bought 95 items. I spent $97.89. This would have regularly cost $290.35. I used $50.41 in Manufacturers coupons (keep printing these off! Some I thought I would never use, but who can resist free boxes of popcorn, really?). I had $137.37 in Preferred Savings and $4.68 in store coupon savings. Plus I have 3 coupons for a free gallon of milk. (fyi, when you buy 4 boxes of selected cereal, you get the coupon. It is for a free gallon of milk up to $4.50. The whole $4.50 came off my bill even though my milk was only $2.99). I'd say we did pretty good. And once again I have enough cereal to last a lifetime. I need to inherit some teenagers asap. HA!

Homemade Laundry Detergent Review
So, remember way back when when I had a link to a recipe for homemade laundry detergent? (Go HERE). Well, I made it! Here are my thoughts:
The recipe made enough for 22 large to extra large loads for just a couple of dollars. I used the Borax, the Arm & Hammer, the Fels-Naptha soap, and the oxy clean. I found all the products (except the Oxy-Clean) at Winco for pennies. To measure the loads I took the scoop out of the oxy clean. It is just over 2 T, which is how much detergent you need for a large load. So, overall, I give the recipe an 8 out of 10. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell of the Fels-Naptha soap. It is okay. Actually I can't decide if I like it. It is kind of citrusy but like a cleaner too. I don't know. I kind of like it. I did read that you can substitute that soap for any bar of soap (like a really yummy smelling one) but the fels-naptha is designed for stain removal, so I don't know. Going on, I am really pleased with how clean my clothes seem. I really like it a lot. I add some liquid fabric softener to my loads and I am really pleased. I think I will continue using it. I have enough stuff for 143 loads. =) Maybe I will try a different bar of soap and see what I think. I'll let you know if I do. =)
So, now, is it a good deal?!? I think you can make enough detergent for about 143 large to extra large loads for about $10. I think that is pretty good. It may compare to buying the cheapest detergent on the shelf...but the cleaning power of this detergent it AMAZING. Plus on a box of detergent in the store I think the loads it indicates aren't for large to extra large loads. So this recipe really is a good deal.
Oh, one more thing. SO EASY TO MAKE. The only thing that took any time was to grate the bar of soap. Which only took like 5 minutes. You should try it!
